What we collect

• Account data — name and email when you sign up, start a trial, or subscribe to reports/alerts.
• Billing — payments are processed by Stripe; we never store full card numbers.
• API usage — hashed API key, endpoint, timestamps and counts (for limits, billing and support).
• IP addresses — for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and security logs.
• Submissions — if you submit a vessel photo, we store the image and your email for moderation.
• Browser storage — your API key can be kept in your own browser (localStorage) for convenience. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party ad/analytics cookies.
• Aggregate page views — we count page views first-party (path and referring site only; no cookies, no user IDs, no cross-site tracking).

Vessel data

Vessel positions shown by the Service derive from public AIS radio broadcasts transmitted by vessels; they are not collected from visitors to this site.

How we use data

To provide and operate the Service, enforce plan limits, send transactional email (key delivery, alerts and reports you request), and provide support. We do not sell personal data.

Processors we use

Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Vultr (hosting), Cloudflare (DNS). Each processes data only to provide their service to us.

Retention

Account data is kept while your account is active and as required for tax/accounting. Usage and security logs are rotated. Report/alert subscriptions keep your email until you unsubscribe.

Your choices

Unsubscribe links (or a reply) stop any email list. For access or deletion of your personal data, email john@binnacleai.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Security

API keys are stored as hashes; transport is TLS-encrypted.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
